Your Dental Hygienist - Ged Durkin

We are fortunate to have a very experienced and enthusiastic Dental Hygienist on our team.

Ged Durkin was born into an RAF family, ending his school education at King's School, Gutersloh, Germany. Joining the RAF himself, Ged qualified as a dental hygienist in 1979 (Diploma level). He then travelled a great deal in the UK and abroad, including working in Gibraltar and Berlin.

Having a broad spectrum of experience, he has worked with communities in schools, been a hospital hygienist offering pre and post- operative care, and was a senior hygienist tutor. During this time Ged became involved with training other members of dental teams, including dentists, and also taught presentation skills to doctors on a Masters Degree course at the University of Nottingham. Ged is a past Chairman for Eastern Region British Dental Hygienists Association, and a regional representative on the BDHA Council. He finished his time in the RAF as a regional dental practice manager, responsible to a senior officer for the smooth running and audit of 14 dental practices.

Since leaving the RAF Ged has been working largely at The Holt Dental Practice but also at practices in Aylsham and Gorleston. He continues to teach for East Anglian Deanery, Regional Tutors and the Local Dental Committee. Ged has obtained a Diploma in Medical Sciences (Clinical Education) and is aiming to complete his Masters Degree.

Married to Joy with 2 children, Alex and Ross, Ged enjoys walking his dog and has recently started practising Tae Kwon Do again (Korean military martial art).

Ged prides himself in caring deeply for his patients, and constantly striving to set high standards in his clinical work.
